Bayesian Networks – A New Class of Management Tools for Prediction, Estimation and Risk Management
June 29, 2010Tuesday through Tuesday
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
e-Learning via WebEx, Eastern Time,
Class has completed.
Bayesian Networks (BN), sometimes referred to as
Bayesian Belief Networks, have been applied to many applications such as
diagnostics, risk, reliability prediction, and decision support. Growth in
computational power has helped advance BN tools making them easier to use. The
key benefit is that a BN represents causal models that combine sparse data with
expert judgment transforming qualitative knowledge about the processes into
quantitative predictions. For SSCI members, BNs can provide a new class of
management tools for using probabilistic information to support decision making
related to cost, schedule, labor or other types of predictions, estimates,
while quantitatively representing risk. SSCI is offering a webinar to help
members understand:
·
Bayesian nets
·
How to create BN models and how to interpret the results
·
Applications of BNs
·
Results from member use of BN
·
How to perform “what-if?” analysis to test sensitivity of
conclusions
·
How to use the visual reasoning tool as a communication and
documentation aid
Who should attend: This webinar is intended
for Directors and Managers, Capture Manager & Team, Program and Project
Leads, System and Software Engineers: architects, developers, integration and
test, Process developers and Customers.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of
this webinar, attendees will be able to:
·
Describe the underlying theory implemented by BN tools
·
Understand the concept for building a BN model
·
Describe some applications of BNs
·
Understand the results of a BN application from an SSCI member
company
·
Discuss how this new class of tool provides management with
decision support capabilities that can leverage expert judgment in combination with
quantitative information for predicting cost, schedule, labor, or project risks
Highlights: SSCI webinars are
delivered via WebEx over the Internet and an audio conference call.
Instructions for accessing the WebEx session and audio conference call will be
mailed to all registrants approximately two days prior to the scheduled
webinar.
Format: 1 Hour eLearning

Course Information
Unless otherwise noted in a course description, the training courses above are open for attendance by member company staff. Member company staff must be logged into their For Members Only (FMO) account to register for courses. If you do not have an FMO account, you can request one by completing the
Account Registration
form.
Courses listed on our
Training and Events Calendar
are available to SSCI members at no additional cost. Non-members may be eligible to attend some of our training courses; a registration fee may apply. Non-members should call (800) 827-4772 or contact our training coordinator at
ask-ssci@systemsandsoftware.org
to request registration.
Professional Development Units (PDU): SSCI is a Registered Education Provider with the Project Management Institute (PMI) and provides Professional Development Units (PDUs) for several of our courses and workshops. Individuals interested in PDUs for registered courses should visit the PMI website (
www.pmi.org
) for a complete listing.
For courses not registered with PMI, students have the option to self-assess the relationship of course materials against the PMBOK. Self-assessments require students to determine the number of appropriate PDU’s based on the total course contact hours that align with PMBOK topics. Students may then claim PDUs through PMI’s website. Please note that students are responsible to maintain documentation of self-assessments in the event of a future inquiry/audit from PMI.
