Technical Exchange: Strategies Leading To Successful Integration and Test
February 18, 2009Wednesday through Wednesday
8:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Systems and Software Consortium
Herndon, VA
Class has completed.
The start of the Systems Integration and Test (I&T) phase is the point of no return for systems development. If the system has not been designed for optimum I&T, the probability of success in the I&T phase is significantly diminished. Faults cannot be quickly isolated and solved. Requirements cannot be verified. Robustness is not satisfactory.
During the last 20 years, numerous programs have experienced serious problems and overruns during the I&T phase. Many of these problems could have been avoided if adequate planning and appropriate strategies had been employed prior to the start of the I&T phase.
This technical exchange focuses on best practices and lessons learned associated with successful I&T. Our keynote speaker, Mr. Lawrence Burrows, will define the 16 key System Engineering activities that when performed with due diligence leads to successful I&T. His presentation will highlight how he has helped programs succeed with I&T and his lessons learned from troubleshooting problems on large, complex systems.
Mr. Tom Wissink’s presentation will focus on the challenges of I&T resulting from the increase of software intensive systems over the past several decades and what the solution might be in the future. Techniques, skills, metrics and technologies will be discussed.
Dr. Mark Blackburn’s presentation will summarize a top ten list of integration and test (I&T) issues; introduce the concepts and terminology of Model Driven Engineering (MDE): discuss how MDE helps to constructively address some of the key I&T issues; recommend how to get started using modeling adoption practices; and provide pointers to other resources.
Who should attend: The intended audience for this event includes Systems Engineers, Systems and Software Technical Leads, Project Managers, Technologists, and Business Development Managers.
Learning Objectives: During this technical exchange session our speakers will describe their approaches for achieving I&T success. Specifically, they will describe what activities they perform, what results they receive, and lessons learned from their application on large, complex systems.
